Memories of World War II by Mike Wise

Mike Wise was 12 years old at the start of World War II . He lived in Western Avenue, close to Ashford Town Centre. After he retired he drew pictures of life in wartime as he remembered it. Many of the characters shown have been recognised by people who were brought up in that part of Ashford. There are about thirty illustrations, these can be seen as part of our records collection. Above you can see his wonderful artwork depicting scenes of air raid shelter building, gasmask deployment, search lights and the vivid scene of a German raid.
